Players Recognized -
The Bulldogs had two players make the All-Region Team. Jonathan Juliano was selected to the second team as a Forward and David Dettmer was selected to the third team as a Defensemen.
End to Another Bulldog Season -
The Bulldogs have finished their season with an 11-16-2-1 record. Ferris will be represented by three players and their coach at the All-Star Tournament in Philadelphia the first weekend of April. The team is made up of 3 or 4 kids from each team in the GMHL to compete against other teams made from each league in division II. The Bulldogs will be sending Jonathan Juliano, Mike Bush and David Dettmer along with their coach Tom Apsey.
The Ferris State coaching staff would like to congratulate the following seniors for a great season and great careers: Brandon Eis, Chris Small, Matt Oliver, Jeff Baysarowich and Scott Morrison.
Bulldogs Lose in First Round -
Ferris played Grand Valley in the first round of the GMHL Tournament and fell just short losing 8-7. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Mike Bush scored with assists going to Jeff Baysarowich and Jonathan Juliano. The Lakers tied it up moments later before Bush got his second of the night from Juliano and Baysarowich to regain the lead. Baysarowich added to the lead with assists to Juliano and Bush. Less than a minute left the Lakers pulled within one headed into the locker room. Ferris went up 4-2 when Jake Carney scored on the powerplay from Juliano and Bush. The rest of the period belonged to the Lakers as they rattled off 4 goals to take a 6-4 lead into the final period. The Lakers kept the scoring going early into the third period and added two more for a score of 8-4. With 8 minutes to play the Bulldogs got hot and started putting the puck in the net with Jake Carney scoring two in a row to complete his hattrick. Assists went to Juliano and Baysarowich on both of those goals. Mike bush scored with 20 seconds left to pull within one with assists going to Baysarowich and David Dettmer. The Bulldogs had a couple more chances late but fell short in a great effort.
The Bulldogs Will Play Grand Valley State
in the First Round of the GMHL Tournament -
Ferris will play GVSU Friday March 6th at 4:30 p.m. in the GMHL tourney. The game is being played at Patterson Ice Arena on the Olympic Rink. The Bulldogs come in as the #6 seed and GVSU at the #3 seed. After the four games played Friday night the teams will be re-seeded for the semi-final games on Saturday morning. The Championship game will also be played on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
Ferris Wins Big on Senior Night -
Ferris hosted Central Michigan Friday night then traveled to Central on Saturday. Two of the same games just different out comes. Ferris won big on their senior night 7-1 and then fell in a heartbreaker Saturday 6-5 in overtime. Ferris outshot Central 53 to 48 Friday night and 54 to 39 on Saturday night. The Bulldog goals in the first game were from Jake Carney (2), Jonathan Juliano (2) (shorthanded), Kevin Wigren (powerplay), Jeff Baysarowich and Mike Bush. The Bulldog goals Saturday night came from Jeff Baysarowich (2), Nolan Stempin and Chris Small on the powerplay and the game tying goal went to Juliano shorthanded. Kevin Delamarter played very solid all weekend in net for the Bulldogs and received another win on Friday night. Ferris will travel to Western Michigan this Saturday for just one game.
Ferris gets Tie and Win -
Ferris State hosted Ohio State over the weekend. Saturday night the Bulldogs kept their lead in tact to win 6-4. Jonathan Juliano had 3 goals and two assists to lead the Bulldogs. Mike Bush had two goals and an assist to help as well. Ferris' other goal came from Jake Carney. Kevin Delamarter played very well in the net to get the win and also got his first assist of the year. Ferris will play a home and home with Central Michigan this weekend.
Friday night the Bulldogs found themselves behind 1-0, 15 seconds into the game, before Mike Bush scored less than a minute later with assists from Jonathan Juliano and Brandon Eis. Ferris added another two minutes later when Ryan Tubbs scored with assists from Josh Husted and David Dettmer. The second period was all Ferris as they got a goal from Jeff Baysarowich (Chris Small, Mike Bush) and Juliano (Mike Bush). With a 4-1 lead heading into the final period things looked good for the Bulldogs. Ohio State never gave up though and scored three goals to tie the game, the last goal coming with 12 seconds left on the clock. The final score was 4-4.
Bulldogs Win Big on Weekend -
Ferris traveled to Wright State University for a two game set and skated away with a 9-2 win on Friday night and a 8-4 win on Saturday night. Mike Bush led the way for the Bulldogs with 11 points in the two games. Jonathan Juliano had 9 points and Jeff Baysarowich had 7 points to round out the point total for the top line to 27 on the weekend. The Bulldogs struggled in the first period each game finding themselves behind, before coming together to play great defense and offense. Ferris outscored their opponent 13-0 in the 2nd and 3rd period of the two games. The Bulldogs will host Ohio State University in a GMHL Conference match-up at home this weekend.
Ferris Swept by GMHL Rival Grand Valley -
Ferris traveled to Grand Valley Friday night for the first meeting of the year. The only problem was that the Lakers showed up to play as Ferris just put equipment on to get embarrassed. The Lakers started strong and never let up as they went on to win big by a score of 11-3.
Saturday the Lakers traveled up to Ferris for the final meeting of the year. The game was much better for the Bulldogs, but still fell short in a 3-1 loss. The Lakers found the net first when Andrew Dykstra threw a shot to the net that bounced off two Ferris defensemen and landed in the net. In the second period the Lakers found another Ferris defensemen to put the puck off for their second of the night. Ferris finally got one past the Lakers netminder on the powerplay midway through the third period. Jonathan Juliano scored the goal off a pass from Mike Bush. The Lakers ended the scoring for the night with 1:47 remaining on a powerplay. The Bulldogs will look to get back on track when they travel to Wright State next weekend.
Bulldogs Struggle in Third Period to End with a Tie -
The Bulldogs started strong for the second night in a row against the Missouri State Bears scoring two goals early in the first period. The goals came from Mike Bush (Jeff Baysarowich, Nolan Stempin) and Josh Edwards (Kyle Force, Logan Wood). However just like the night before the Bears tied the game before the end of the first period. Ferris owned the second period as they got goals from Baysarowich (Jonathan Juliano) and Juliano unassisted to take a two goal advantage into the third period. With 8:28 remaining in the third the Bears brought the score to 4-3, but 20 seconds later Baysarowich found the back of the net again with an assist going to Scott Morrison. Missouri State just didn't quit as they scored with 4:50 remaining to be within one again. The Bears pulled their goalie and found the back of the net with just 13 seconds left to tie the game and force overtime. The overtime period was back and fourth but neither team could light the lamp and the game ended in a 5-5 tie.
Ferris Starts Second Semester with Win -
The Ferris State Bulldogs hosted Missouri State- Maroon Bears. The Bulldogs came out firing and put two goals up in the first 9 minutes. Jonathan Juliano scored the first goal with assists going to Scott Morrison and Jeff Baysarowich. New comer Jake Carney got the second one from Matt Oliver and Chris Small. The Bears scored with a minute to go in the period on the powerplay to pull within one. Missouri State got the lone goal of the second period to make it a two-two tie going into the final period. The scoring started with the Bears in the third period to give them a lead before Ferris answered with two goals 8 seconds apart to regain the lead. Goals came from Juliano (David Dettmer, Baysarowich) and Oliver (Carney, Small). The Bears once again tied the game with 5:40 remaking. The Bulldogs would not let up though as Carney found the back of the net once again for the game winner with assists going to Morrison and Small. Kevin Delamarter was the winning goalie as he turned away 28 of his 32 shots he faced. Bulldogs with face-off with the Bears again Friday night at 10 p.m.
Bulldogs End First Semester with Split -
Ferris State traveled to Lindenwood University over the weekend and came away with a split to the #6 team in the central. In the first game the Bulldogs had trouble getting the puck by Matt Dennison who played stellar in net for the Lions. Ferris tied the game in the second at one with a goal from Josh Husted (Ryan Tubbs, Kevin Wigren). They would take the lead in the third when Jeff Baysarowich scored off a pass from Jonathan Juliano. With seven minutes to go in the game the Lions tied the game with a controversial goal when the net was clearly off, but after further video evidence the goal would stand. Lindenwood scored three minutes later to take the lead and win the game 3-2. Game two was all Ferris in the first period as they put four goals in the net and taking a three goal lead into the first intermission. Goals came from Juliano (Tyler Kalat, Ryan Rehil), Husted (Kalat, Derek Paret), Mike Bush (Juliano, Baysarowich), and Bush again on a penalty shot. The second period started well for the Bulldogs as they added two more. Husted from Bush and Wigren followed by Bush's third of the night from Baysarowich and Matt Oliver. The Bulldogs would spend the rest of the period killing penalties and getting help from their goaltender Kevin Delamarter. Lindenwood ended the scoring on the night with just under six minutes to go in the second period. The Bulldogs won 6-2 and improve to 6-12 overall.
Ferris Upsets #1 Davenport -
The Bulldogs traveled to Patterson Ice Arena to face-off against the number 1 Panthers in a GMHL conference game. It was the Panthers who got on the scoreboard first when Brit Ouellette put a powerplay goal past Ferris' Kevin Delamarter. The second period started with a goal from Ferris' Derek Paret and an assist going to Ryan Tubbs. Rick Gadwa gave the Panthers the lead back halfway through the period. Jonathan Juliano scored with 8 seconds left in the period to tie the game before heading into the final period, assists went to Jeff Baysarowich and Mike Bush. Davenport came out with jump in the third period throwing shots from every angle at the Bulldog netminder who was up to the task. Delamarter stopped all 16 shots he faced in the final period and 39 of 41 for the game. Ferris got another goal from Juliano halfway through the third period to take the lead for the first time in the game. The Bulldogs never looked back playing great team defense. Tubbs sealed the deal with an empty net goal with a minute to go. Ferris will travel to Lindenwood University next weekend for a two game set.
Ferris gets Revenge Saturday Night -

Ferris once again started the third period with a goal from Juliano (Bush, Shields) and then a late goal from Josh Husted (Ryan Tubbs, Bush) that would be the game winner as Miami scored with six seconds left in the game to make it a 5-4 final.

Miami Beats Ferris in GMHL Action -
The Ferris State Bulldogs hosted the Miami (OH) Red Hawks Friday night. The Red Hawks' Alec Miz played well in net as he turned away 34 of his 35 shots he faced. Miami scored one goal each in the first and second periods on the powerplay off the sticks of Jon Palvo and Hunter Sten Back. They added another early in the third period before Ferris final got one past Miz on the powerplay from Dale Kolatski, the assist went to Jonathan Juliano. Miami finished the scoring minutes later as Deven Zimmer got his second of the period. Final score was 4-1.
Ferris Gets First GMHL Win of Year -
Ferris Faced off against the Indiana Hoosiers for game two Saturday night and walked away with their first GMHL win of the year, winning 4-2. Ferris came out of the gate firing with a goal by Mike Bush one minute into the game with assists going to Ryan Rehil and Jonathan Juliano. Two minutes later Logan Wood found the back of the net with assists from Sean Sapino and David Dettmer. Indiana made it 2-1 halfway through the first period. Bush got his second of the night from Juliano and Wood to start the second period. The Hoosiers made it a one goal game once again, but that is as close as they would get. After giving up seven goals the night before Kevin Delamarter stood on his head to shut the door the rest of the way. The Bulldogs sealed the game when Juliano scored late in the third period with Bush and Chris Small getting assists.
Bulldogs Lose Game One in Indiana -
It was a back and forth high scoring GMHL conference battle that ended with the Indiana Hoosiers taking the victory Friday night. The game started with the Hoosiers scoring two goals in the first two minutes before Mike Bush put the Bulldogs on the board on great passes from Jonathan Juliano to David Dettmer who found Bush in the slot. That goal was answered by two more quick goals 20 seconds and two minutes later to give the Hoosiers a 4-1 lead. A time-out call by Ferris was exactly what they needed as they came back with better defense and added a goal in the last minute of the period on the powerplay off the stick of Bush, assist going to Matt Oliver. Ferris closed the gap to one when Ryan Tubbs got a powerplay goal from Sean Sapino and Kevin Wigren. Indiana answered that with a powerplay goal themselves to regain a two goal lead. The Bulldogs' Juliano put one in 20 seconds later to make it 5-4 going into the final period, assists went to Jeff Baysarowich and Bush. The third period was a crazy one to say the least as the Hoosiers scored to regain that two goal lead. But in the next 40 seconds the Bulldogs found the net twice to tie the game with goals by Oliver (Chris Small, Bush) and Baysarowich (Juliano, Bush). With 7 minutes to go in the game the Hoosiers got their 7th goal of the game that turned out to be all they needed. They put one in the empty net to seal the victory 8-6.
Bulldogs Win Game Two -
The score went back and fourth for the first and begining of second period until Ferris took control of the game to beat Southern Illinois Edwardsville 9-5. Mike Bush started the scoring for the Bulldogs on the powerplay with assists going to Josh Shields and Jonathan Juliano. The cougars answered with an unassisted goal by Mike Dolan. Ferris took the lead back with a shorthanded goal by Juliano for a 2-1 lead after one. SIUE came out with a quick goal in the second period by Traig Henson. David Dettmer scored off a pass from Sean Sapino to give the dogs the lead once again and to keep it for good. Ryan Tubbs put three of the next six in for the Bulldogs to record a hattrick on the night. Juliano and Bush also added one more a piece to give them each two, while Matt Oliver scored one on the night. Kevin Wigren finished with 3 assists and Josh Husted with two. Ferris will travel to Indiana for a GMHL conference battle next Friday and Saturday night.
Ferris Gets First Victory!
The Bulldogs hosted Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Gold in a non-conference ACHA match-up Firday night. The Cougars got on the board first with a goal by Aaron Dalton with an assist to Bret Edwards. That would be all the Cougars could get by a strong goaltending performance by Ferris' Kevin Delamarter. The Bulldogs would put three unanswered goals up to get their first victory of the season. The first goal of the night came from Chris Small on the powerplay with assists going to Mike Bush and Jonathan Juliano. Kevin Wigren found the back of the net for the second goal with Ryan Tubbs getting the assist. Midway through the third period Tyler Kalat jumped up in the play to put the puck past Cougars goalie Lucas Venker, assists went to Juliano and Bush. The two teams will meet Saturday night at 8:00 pm.
Ferris Close until End -
The Ferris State Bulldogs hosted the Davenport Panthers Thrusday night in a GMHL Conference battle. The Panthers started the scoring with a goal by Bobby Collar assists going to Jeremy Barber. The Bulldogs answered later in the first period when Jeff Baysarowich got his first of two on the night, assists going to Ryan Rehil and Jonathan Juliano. The Panthers responded with two quick goals from Jonah Rogowski (Brit Ouellette, Eric Troup) and Collar (Kevin Brojek, Adam Thomas). The Bulldogs came out in the second period with some fire and got an early goal from Matt Oliver (Josh Husted, Ryan Tubbs). Rogowski gave the Panthers a two goal lead going into the final period with an assist going to Dan Reaume. Great goaltending by Ferris' Kevin Delamarter and Davenports Chris Joswiak kept the scoring limited. Baysarowich found his second of the night on the powerplay with two minutes to go in the game. With a minute to go in the game the Bulldogs pulled their goalie looking to tie the game. It would not work as the Panthers' Adam Thomas found himself behind the Ferris defense and put the puck in the empty net. Thirteen seconds later Jeff Kraemer added another one for the Panthers to make the final 6-3.
Ferris Can't find Answers -
Michigan State traveled to Ferris for the second meeting on Friday night. The Bulldogs got the start they have been looking for as Chris Small put a juicy rebound past Sand for the first goal of the night, assist went to Mike Bush. The Spartans answered with 5 minutes to go in the first frame. One minute later Jonathan Juliano put the Bulldogs ahead going into the first intermission, assists going to Josh Shields and Ty Kalat. The Spartans put two on the board in the second period to take the lead 3-2 going into the final period. Msu also started the scoring in the third period and give them some breathing room. Juliano cut the lead to one with his second of the night at the 8 minute mark with an assist to Kalat. Michigan State rattled off three quick goals to end the game at 7-3.
Bulldogs go Scoreless at Michigan State -
Ferris played Michigan State Thursday night at MSU and walk away with a 5-0 defeat. Justin Sand played well in net for the Spartans to earn the shutout. The Bulldogs didn't have many chances but the ones the did have were matched by Sand all night.
Michigan Wins Second Straight vs. Ferris -
Ferris traveled to Ann Arbor to play Michigan in a GMHL conference game last Wednesday night. The Bulldogs would have a great start to the game out playing the Wolverines in the first period, but could only get one past a strong goaltender in Brandon Demars to make it 1-1 at the first intermission. The Ferris goal came off the face mask of forward Josh Husted with assists going to Chris Small and Mike Bush. Michigan came out strong in the second period to put up four unanswered goals in the second frame. The third period started with a breakaway goal by Bush with assists going to Small and Husted. That would be all the Bulldogs could put past Demars as the Wolverines went on to win 9-2.
Michigan Wins Big -
The University of Michigan came into Big Rapids and beats Ferris 7-1 for a GMHL conference victory. Mark Silverman and Nick Tinetti scored two a piece to help lead Michigan to the win. Brandon Demars was the winning goaltender for the Wolverines stopping 27 of 28 shots he faced. Ferris' lone goal came on the powerplay off the stick of Jonathan Juliano with assists going to Josh Husted and Mike Bush. Ferris will travel to Michigan Wednesday.
Ferris Lose Heads Lose Game -
Ferris State traveled to Michigan Dearborn and get smoked 8-1. Penalties were the story of the night for the Bulldogs as they racked up 40 minutes in the box. Dearborn put the puck in the net 4 times on the powerplay with two goals coming from Macari who also had a third shorthanded for his hattrick, the other two went to Czajka and Telfer. The Bulldogs lone goal came early in the 2nd period on one of their 4 powerplays off the stick of Mike Bush with assists going to Chris Small and Matt Oliver. Ferris will face-off in their first GMHL Conference game with the University of Michigan next Friday night at Ferris State.
Bulldogs Drop Third Straight -
The Ferris State Bulldogs hosted the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a non-confrence match Friday night. Ferris was unable to capture their first win of the season losing 7-5. James Telfer would start the scoring for UMD with his first of three on the night. The Bulldogs answered with a goal from Dale Kolatski (Brandon Eis, Ryan Rehil). Then UMD rattled off four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead heading into the 3rd period. The Bulldogs started the third period with a goal from first year player Jeff Baysarowich. UMD answered with a goal from Bryan Czajka. Jonathan Juliano from Ferris put the puck past UMD's Stephen Yu to get the Dogs within 3. Stephen Yu would have to leave the game with equipment issues after the goal. With a cold goaltender in the net, Ferris' David Dettmer scored his first of the season. Telfer then answered with his third of the night. Dettmer finished the scoring for the night with an assist going to Matt Oliver. Bulldogs will travel to Dearborn for a 7:30 p.m. game tonight.
First Games of 2008-2009 Season-
Game two Saturday night would be a battle between two great goaltenders! The Bulldogs Kevin Delamarter would turn away 33 of his 37 shots he faced. While the Penguins goaltender John Snyder was able to turn away 30 of his 33 shots. The Bulldogs would find themselves down by only 1 after one period of play. The penguins would add to that lead with 2 goals in the first 8 minutes of the second period. The Bulldogs would find some hope with a powerplay goal by Matt Oliver with assists going to Josh Edwards and Jonathan Juliano. Although the penguins would answer that goal with a shorthanded goal themselves before the end of the second period, giving them a 4-1 lead heading into the final period. Ferris would not quit as they would score 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the 3rd period. Goals came from freshmen Ryan Tubbs (Ryan Rehil) and Dale Kolatski (Kevin Wigren, Sean Sapino). That would be all the Bulldogs could get past the strong goaltender of the Penguins and once again fall just short of getting a victory. The Bulldogs with host Michigan Dearborn next Friday night followed by a trip to Dearborn the following night.
Ferris State traveled to Youngstown State for a Friday and Saturday night matchup. Friday's game would feature a quick start by the Bulldogs who put 3 unanswered goals on the scoreboard in the first period. Goals came from freshmen Dale Kolatski and Derek Paret and Sophomore Jonathan Juliano. Chris Small and Kevin Wigren assisted on Kolatski's goal, Logan Wood on Paret's and Wigren again on Juliano's. The Second period would be the opposite as the Penguins would answer with 3 quick goals before Ferris regained the lead on a goal from Small that was assisted by Kolatski. Penalties on the Bulldogs allowed the Penguins to tie the game at 4 a piece before the end of the period. The third period would continue with penalty problems for the Bulldogs and allow the Home team to score their 4th and 5th powerplay goals of the game and take a 2 point advantage with under 8 minutes to go in the game. Ferris kept the pressure on and scored their 2nd powerplay goal of the game, from another freshmen Josh Shields, assist going to Matt Oliver. The Bulldogs would run out of time and fall short in the season opener 5-6. The Bulldogs goaltender Kevin Delamarter faced 44 shots turning in a great performance as well. The Penguins Starting goalie Luc Raddaiski would be pulled after the first period with 14 shots and 3 goals allowed. The back-up goaltender Matt Jacobs would come in and turn away 43 of the 45 shots he faced.
Alumni Weekend- The weekend started with a softball game Friday night and a Victory for the Alumni. Saturday was the golf outing at Katke Golf Course. There was a great turnout with about 56 players making it to the scramble. Sunday was the showdown at the rink. Alumni would walk away with a slim victory. It was a great game that gave the current team plenty of things to work on before their first games this upcoming weekend. Thank you to everyone that made it out this weekend!
Try-outs
Thank you to all the participants that came to try-out for the team this year! It was a good turn out and great work by everyone involved. Congratulations to the 26 players that were selected to play this year.
All-Star Game:
This years All-star game went back and fourth with a quick pace and high scoring. It would take to a 5 man shootout to decide the out come. Team White would walk away with the victory.
